Getting Around the Museum

- Two disabled parking spaces can be found at the front of the museum.
- There is a wheelchair which can be borrowed from reception upon request.
- The museum’s ground floor galleries are accessible for wheelchair users, this includes the shop and tearoom.
- The cellars can only be accessed via a staircase, there is no lift access. This area may not be accessible to those with reduced mobility. For those unable to access the cellars a reduced admission price can be offered upon request, and a book can be provided illustrating the displays through the cellars.
- There is lift access to the First floor Beam Press gallery, where temporary exhibitions are held.
- An accessible toilet is available in the ground floor galleries, through the shop.
Information for the Hearing Impaired

- A hearing loop is installed at the front desk.
- Historic films and audio presentations are used throughout the museum. These are not currently not subtitled, but transcripts are in development.
Sensory Information

- Sensory Backpacks are available from reception upon request. These have been developed for visitors with special educational needs and disabilities, but can be utilised by anyone who who may benefit from them. They contain: Fidget toys, ear defenders, a torch, a magnifying glass, a sand timer, and a puppet.
- Upon request the ear defenders included in the sensory backpacks can be borrowed individually.
- For those with sensitivity to noise, please be aware that audible voice overs are used in various spaces in the museum. Warning posters have been placed where these will be triggered.
Tactile Displays

- Throughout the museum there are a number of interactive displays for hands on engagement with objects. These include a interactive trail, a replica late-Victorian pub, and varied activity stations.
Accompanying Carers

- Carers accompanying paying visitors are entitled to free entry to the museum galleries.
